Assault on a Constable at Clavering

-On Tuesday, before Harold E. Byng, Esq., Arthur Cakebread, a notorious poacher, was charged with assaulting and beating P.c. Chapman, at clavering, on December 7th, while in the execution of his duty.

Chapman held a commitment summons against the defendant for one month's imprisonment for poaching, and while endeavouring to take him into custody prisoner became very violent; a struggle ensued, the constable being kicked and bitten several times.

With the assistance of Mr. Newell, draper, of Newport, Cakebread was overpowered and handcuffed, and subsequently taken to Cambridge Gaol.
