Unlit Horse and Cart in Takeley

Robert Warren,  dealer, of Great Canfield, was summoned for driving a cart at Takeley on Dec. 14 at 11.50 p.m. without a light.

—P.c. Scott said he saw a horse and cart in Takeley Street without a light. He pulled the horse up and turned on his light when he found defendant and a lad sitting in the bottom of the cart. The defendant said he had a light when he left the Nag's Head, Hockerill.

The lad in the cart lighted the candle lamp, and the defendant drove away.

—Defendant said he was not in charge of the cart. The boy, in his employ, was driving the horse. He (defendant) was not well, and particularly told the lad to look after the light on the cart.

—Defendant was fined 10s. and 4s. costs.
