    Awarded Merit Badge 1 July 1878 for zeal and activity in apprehending two notorious burglars.

    1881 Census:  Harlow.  Wife and 2 children.

    1891 Census:  Debden. Wife Mary (50), daughter Eliza Ellen (18) and his sister-in-law, Alice Everett (32)

    1901 Census: Living in Smith's Green, Takeley, with Mary and his daughter - now married with the surname Barltrop.

     

    Upon his retirement, PC Butcher was presented a set of silver table spoons by Superintendent Simmonds.
