*William Campling was the High Constable (Chief Constable) of Saffron Walden Borough Police, who died on 9th November 1849,
from injuries he sustained having been shot in both legs while walking near his home in Bridge Street, Saffron Walden.
No perpetrator was ever convicted of this wicked deed.
