    William Barnard was born in 1852 in High Roding, Essex

    William Barnard joined Essex County Constabulary on .

    Before joining, William worked as a Servant at Felsted School

    Barnard was promoted to the rank of sergeant on 20th December 1883 and to Inspector on 1st May 1895. He reached the rank of Superintendent on 1st May 1895.

    According to the 1891 Census, he was a lodger at an address in Rayne Road in Braintree, recorded as being a Sergeant of Police.

    During a lengthy career, he served at Chelmsford, Braintree, East Tilbury, Foulness, Southend, Witham, Maldon, Southend, Halstead and Dunmow.

    Barnard died suddenly on 4th March 1909.
